First, we will start with some traditional summer drinks in India,

Aam Panna:

Summer is the season of mangoes, and in Indian households, this drink is a must the Summer. Aam Panna is a traditional and refreshing summer drink, which is made from the pulp of smocked or boiled unripped green mangoes. It also contains some Indian spice mixes and sweeteners.

 There are 2-3 ways to prepare Aam Panna, we will share the easiest and healthiest one with you.

 

Ingredients-

  •  1 Green raw Mango
  • 2 tbsp Jaggery powder
  • 1 tbsp Rock salt
  • 2 glasses of water
  • 1 tbsp Cumin powder
  • 2 tsp red Chili powder
  • 3-4 Mint leaves
  • 6-8 ice cubes
 

Recipe:

  • Peel the mango, add 2 cups of water into a pan and leave it to boil, then add the peeled mangoes, then cover the pan with the lid. Allow it to boil on medium heat for 20-30 minutes.


  • Or to save some time you can just add the peeled mangoes into the pressure cooker with some water, and pressure cooks the mangoes on medium heat for 2-3 whistles.

  • Or you can roast the mango directly on the flame of your gas stove, you need to roast the mango until it gets completely softened, then remove the burnt skin of it.

  • Now collect the pulp into a bowl by squeezing the boiled mangoes and removing the seed. Let it cool down for some time.

  • Then add all the spices, jaggery powder, and salt into the blender, add the pulp and some ice and blend well. Add water according to the consistency you want, and pour into 2 glasses.

  • Garnish with some ice cubes and mint leaves. And your Aam Panna is ready to serve.

Jal jeera water recipe is very simple, as Jal jeera powder is easily available in the market, it contains many beneficial spices like cumin, black pepper, black salt, chili powder, fennel, Aam chur (fruit powder), and some herbs like mint, ginger, and tamarind also.

Nimbu Pani is also an easy summer drink that is effortless to make and very cooling. It is also beneficial for our health as it contains antioxidants and vitamin C, lemon also helps indigestion, and it also has antibacterial and anti-ageing properties.

 

Ingredients-

  • 5-6 tbsp lemon juice
  • 2 tbsp jaggery powder
  • 1 tbsp black salt
  • 3-4 mint leaves
  • Ice cubes

 

Recipe-

  • Add some jaggery powder and salt into a glass, add lemon juice in it, add some water and stir until the salt and sugar dissolves. Add some ice cubes, and some crushed mint leaves to enhance the flavours, it is optional. And your Nimbu Pani is ready. 
  • You can add soda water and some cumin powder to make it more flavourful. Enjoy a tangy and refreshing summer drink.

Lassi is a healthy drink that has good bacteria in it, and yogurt contains probiotics. It also contains calcium which helps to make our bones strong and also boosts immunity.

Lassi can be sweet and salty, or both, you can use some spices like cardamom powder, saffron, and rose water to make it more flavorful and aromatic. these ingredients are optional and adding them is totally up to you. I prefer to make it simple as the classic one is much easier to make and much more refreshing and suitable for Summer.

 

Ingredients-

  • 2 cups of yogurt
  • 2 tbsp of Sugar
  • 1 tbsp black salt
  • 1 glass of water
  • Ice cubes

 

Recipe-

  • Add the yogurt to a mixing bowl, and beat the yogurt with a whisk or a spoon until it gets smooth. There should not be any lumps in the yogurt, using a whisk would be better.

  • Then add the sugar and salt into it, you can use jaggery powder instead of sugar to make it healthier. Mix well until the sugar dissolves.

  • Add some ice cubes into 2 glasses, and add the yogurt mixture into the glasses equally, add water and mix well, and Lassi is ready. It’s one of the most delicious and traditional summer drinks.

In Indian households Chaas or Indian Buttermilk is traditionally made by churning cream with a wooden churner while making homed made butter, when you remove the butter, the leftover water is called Buttermilk, then you can add some spices to make it more flavorful and wholesome.

But there is also another alternative way to make Buttermilk, which is much easier and delicious. Today I will share that one,

 

Ingredients-

  • 1 ½ cup yogurt
  • 2 tbsp black salt
  • ½ tbsp black pepper powder
  • ½ tbsp cumin powder
  • ½ tbsp red chili powder
  • Chopped ginger
  • Chopped Mint leaves
  • Chopped Coriander leaves
  • 1 tsp chopped green chili

 

Recipe-

  • Add the yogurt into the blender, then blend well until it gets smooth.
  • Then add all the spices, ginger, and herbs and some water, add water according to the consistency you want.
  • Then blend again until all the spices and herbs are mixed properly.
  • You can add the ice cubes in the blender or you can add ice at the time of serving into the glass.
  • Pour the mixture into the glasses, for garnishing sprinkle some red chili powder from the top and some mint leaves.

Yes, I know Peeling and cutting sugarcane can be hard for some people, but the result would be so great that you will feel it is worth your hard work.

And not just cooling and refreshing, Sugar can juice is also very healthy for our health. There are so many benefits it carries,

  • You must be thinking that sugarcane makes Sugar, and how can it be so healthy, but let me tell you that the sugar content in Sugarcane is low glycemic, which doesn’t make your blood sugar level high.
  •  The sugar in sugarcane can be easily absorbed into our bodies, which makes us more energetic.

  • Sugarcane is full of minerals, it has calcium, potassium, magnesium, and iron.

  • The potassium in Sugarcane helps to maintain pH levels in our body.
  • The calcium in Sugarcane helps to strengthen our tooth enamel, and bones.

Ingredients-

  • 2 cups of peeled cubes of sugarcane
  • ½ tbsp lemon juice
  • ½ cup of water
  • Pinch of salt

 

Recipe-

  • First, peel the outside of the sugarcane, then cut it into cubes.
  • Then transfer these cubes into a blender and blend well, then add some water and lemon juice, and a pinch of salt into the blender.

  • Again, blend well, then pour the mixture into a strainer or a fresh clot, and place a bowl underneath.
  •  Strain all the juice, press the mixture with a spoon or use your hand so that you call to collect all the juice from it.

  • Then strain the juice again to get rid of the tiny particles of sugarcane, now mix some ice cubes in the bowl or you can put it into the freezer and freeze for 1 hr.

  • Then serve the refreshing sugarcane juice into glasses and enjoy your sweet and sour cooling summer drink.

  • You can skip adding lemon juice and salt if you just want to have plain sugarcane juice, but adding those ingredients would make it more flavorful and refreshing.

And making mango juice is the easiest preparation ever, but the deliciousness and freshness of this drink can not be explained. As you can only get fresh mangoes in the summer, that makes this drink extra special.

 

So let’s get into the recipe,

 

Ingredients-

  • 2 cups of Mango cubes
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1tsp lime juice
  • 1 pinch of black salt
  • ½ cup of water
  • Ice cubes

 

Recipe-

  • Put the peeled mango cubes into the blender, add the sugar, and blend well, until it makes a smooth puree.
  • Then add water and blend well, you can add water according to the consistency you want. I like my Mango juice thick so I add ½ cup of water only.

  • Then add the lime juice and salt so give it a good punch, these will increase the taste of your mango juice.

  • You can add the ice at the time of blending or at the time of serving also.

  • You can also add some mint leaves to make the drink more refreshing.

Bel sharbat is a drink made from Wood apple, which carries many health benefits, and it is a refreshing and cooling summer drink also.

 

Bel is also called Stone apple or Wood apple because it has a hard skin, but the inside of it contains soft orangish sweet pulp. 

 

In India “Bel” or Wood Apple is easily available, we don’t even need to buy it usually cause there are so many trees of it. Here it is popular as a fruit that helps with indigestion and also helps to cure constipation.

 

There are many other benefits as well, as it’s good for our skin, purifies our blood, and helps to reduce diabetes and cholesterol also.


So today the recipe am going to share is the one which my grandmother used to make, and then I learned it from my mother, and it is very tasty, I do not like Wood apple that much, but the drink was always my favourite.

 

 The recipe is very easy and also fun to make.

 

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups of Bel pulp
  • 1 cup yogurt
  • 2 tbsp Sugar
  • 1 tsp black salt
  • 1 tsp roasted Cumin powder
  • Ice cubes
  • 4 glass water

 

Recipe:

  • Put the bel fruit pulp into a mixing bowl, then add some water into it, then squeeze the pulp by using your hand and collect all the seeds into it. Then strain the mixture from a strainer so that you can get a smooth paste.
  • Take the yogurt into a bowl and beat the yogurt using a spoon or whisk, when it’s done, add the yogurt into the Bel fruit mix, and again mix well.
  • Then add the sugar and other spices into it mix properly and add water as per the consistency you want. You can add ice cubes to make it more refreshing, and serve it in glasses.

Thandai:

Thandai is an authentic Indian Drink that is specially made for Indian festivals. It is a summer special cooling and aromatic drink which contains seeds, spices, nuts, and milk. This drink is creamy, very delicious, and leaves a cooling effect on your body it’s called Thandai.

Thandai is a Rajasthani recipe, which you can serve at Holi and Diwali, some brands sell thandai powder, you just need to add milk and your drink would be ready, but nothing can beat the taste of the homemade Rajasthani thandai recipe.  


Ingredients:

  • 4 cups of full-fat milk
  • ½ cup of Sugar
  • ½ cup Almond
  • ½ cup cashew
  • ½ cup pistachio
  • 2 tbsp melon seeds
  • 1 tbsp poppy seeds
  • 1 tbsp fennel seeds
  • 6-8 cardamoms
  • 1 stick of cinnamon
  • ½ tsp saffron strands
  • 2 tbsp dried rose petals

 

Recipe:

  • First boil the milk in a saucepan, when it starts boiling add the sugar and mix well, and keep aside when it gets to a normal temperature put the milk into the fridge.
  • Before that add put some saffron strands into a bowl ad add 1 tbsp milk into it and keep aside.
  • Put all the seeds, rose petals, and spices into a bowl, and add enough water to soak all the ingredients for at least 2 hrs. after 2 hrs drain the water and keep the water in a cup do not discard it.
  • Blend all the soaked ingredients and mix the soaked water in them. until it gets into a smooth paste. then you can strain the mixture or can leave is like so, if you want your drink heavy and creamier.
  • Now add the mixture into a big mixture jar and add the chilled milk and saffron milk into it, giving it a good blend. Now strain the mixture and pour it into glasses.
  • Garnish with some chopped pistachio and saffron strands. Your Rajasthani Thandai is ready.
